We started Optishake to fix something small and annoying — and ended up rethinking how a fresh drink gets into your hand at the gym. Here's who we are and what we believe.
Two founders, two frustrations.
Optishake began with a small, familiar annoyance. Joonas mixed his own recovery drinks at home before training — the powder ready in the shaker, waiting on the kitchen counter. Then the session would finish and the shaker would still be at home, more often than not. There had to be a better way.
Riku was circling the same problem from the other side: gyms wanted to offer fresh drinks, but a staffed shake bar means people to mix them, a mess to clean, and food-safety paperwork to chase — rarely worth it. The easy alternative — cans and bottles — just fills the bins with single-use packaging. What if a machine could do the whole thing instead?
So in 2019 the two of us set out to build exactly that: one machine that blends a fresh, perfect drink straight into your own shaker, in seconds. No staff, no mess, no waste.
Three years to make it effortless.
Making something feel effortless is rarely quick. We spent our first three years prototyping — getting the machine right, inventing RFID-chip authentication so a member just taps and pours, and building maintenance that asks nothing extra of the gym (the machine tells staff when something needs doing, instead of the other way round). It took real investment and a lot of testing to get there. We believed in it enough to leave our day jobs and go full-time in the summer of 2022. Testing taught us something we hadn't expected, too: people would rather pay one simple monthly price than think about the cost of each drink — so that's how Optishake works.

Look closely and the whole system is on the bottle: hold, beep, shake, drink. Every detail of the shaker earns its place — and its RFID tag is what makes it all work.
Considered, down to the shape
Because the machine blends every drink completely smooth, the bottle needs no mixing ball or mesh — so there are fewer parts and nothing fiddly to clean. The rounded base has no sharp corners to trap residue; it rinses clean in seconds and stays fresh wash after wash. It holds a full 500 ml for a sports drink, yet still fits the hand and slides into any gym bag. Dishwasher-safe, and built to last years of daily use. None of it is by accident.
The tag is the heart of it
Each shaker carries an RFID tag, and everything else follows from it. The goal was simple: bring nothing extra to the gym. So at the machine you need only the shaker — no phone, no card, no cash. You buy drinks or a subscription on your phone, but you never need it to use them: tap your shaker and pour. Starting out is just as frictionless — grab a shaker, make a first purchase, and your account exists, with no forced email or download. Run several shakers on one account and they all behave the same. And because any purchase on a stored card needs email confirmation, it stays secure without getting in your way.
For everyday athletes — not just the optimisers.
You don't need a degree in sports nutrition to get something out of the gym. Most of us aren't weighing every macro or stressing over timing windows — we just want to train, feel good, and get on with the rest of our lives. Optishake is for that person. We choose the simpler option, every time. Walk up, choose, done. There's always someone asking for one more feature — our job is to say no to the ones that don't serve the core and only add complexity. The best technology is the kind you don't have to think about.
Make training feel easier
A gym visit has enough friction already. Our job is to take a little of it away — so a fresh, good-for-you drink is the easiest part of your session, not one more thing to plan, carry, or clean up.
Science, not hype
The supplement world runs on fads and bold claims. We don't. We stick to what the evidence actually supports, and we translate it into plain, friendly guidance — so you get the real benefit without the noise or the marketing.
No needless waste
Every drink is blended into a reusable shaker, not a single-use can or bottle. That means less needless packaging waste — and a result that's just as fresh. When the simple thing is done well, it usually turns out to be the sustainable one too.

Most ready-made functional drinks arrive in single-use packaging — a can or bottle for every serving. Optishake skips all of it: each drink is blended fresh into a reusable shaker, so none of that waste gets made. Consider what that adds up to: we've served over 2.8M drinks. In ready-to-drink form that would have been 2.8M cans and bottles in the bin — packaging we never had to make. Right now we're running at around 60,000 drinks a month. Sustainability here isn't a bolt-on; it's the direct result of doing the simple thing.
